Birthers, The Antichrist And Other Idiotic Notions About President Obama

OK, so some people (birthers) claim that Barack Obama is not a citizen of the United States because the documents used from Hawaii to validate his birth in America are somehow invalid. Thatís a load of hogwash. The documents are sound and valid and the Federal Elections Commission that was at the time under the control of the Bush administration said then Senator Obama was good to go to run for President. It is amazing to see the lengths people will go to in order to deny the legitimacy of a black man in the Oval Office. The State of Hawaii has certified that he was born there. Being born in Hawaii makes him an American. American born makes him eligible to be President. Get over it, McCain lost, move on!

The next great myth is that Obama is the Antichrist. Again, hogwash! You people seriously need to get a life. The Bible neither names Obama in some ancient cryptic way nor describes him in any loose way. The video to the contrary notwithstanding linguistic experts cited on Snopes.com have already debunked that one and sent it packing. Jesus did not name Obama the antichrist and there is nothing in Revelation describing a man like Obama as a harbinger of doom. If youíre going to name someone as the antichrist at least use real evidence to support your claims. This business of cut and paste linguistic sleight of hand is really annoying and not worthy of any ecumenical discussion.

My personal favorite crackpot theory is that Obamaís healthcare reform plan is some form of reparations for slavery. Wow! What kind of insanely stupid mind does it take to come up with that one? Oh, thatís right MSNBC reject and current Fox News commentator Glenn Beck; the king of all idiots... This one is so incredibly laughable that even his own previous statements saying that Obama opposes reparations discredit it. There is nothing in any of the healthcare bills bouncing around Congress right now that give preferencial treatement to any one ethnic group. True, minorities would probably benefit more from real healthcare reform than Caucasians. Thatís because minorities have been screwed over more thoroughly by the current system! Minorities are disproportionately poor in America and more likely to be in need of affordable healthcare. Addressing that is not a form of reparations. Itís basic human decency. Just because Obamaís black does not mean heís got some Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan, Jesse Jackson provided agenda he's following. Come on people, this is getting ridiculous. If the slaves themselves could not get their forty acres and a mule when we had the land and mules to give because of government red tape do you really think our government is going to be able to make any kind of equitable reparations by taxing insurance companies? Someone tell Beck to put down the crack pipe and stop trying to figure things out for other people because he really sucks at it.

To be fair and balanced here, letís not forget the people at Glenn Beckís old network MSNBC who seem to think Obama can do no wrong. Yes, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews I am talking about you. From the funny feelings running up your legs to the comparisons with FDR and Abraham Lincoln, you guys have already made this guy the greatest President ever before heís actually accomplished a lot in the office. Healthcare reform is still not a done deal, we are still fighting two wars, the economy is still pretty jacked up for most people in this country and banks that got billions in taxpayer funded bailouts are still handing out billions in bonuses on our dime. Letís not crown him the savior before he actually saves the people, OK?

At the end of the day President Barack Hussein Obama (yes I said his middle name and meant nothing negative by it) is just a man. He is a man who has worked hard and gotten to sit in the big chair making the big decisions. Sure, there are things he will do that will tick off hordes of people. Others will adore those decisions. There will be times when he seems like the greatest thing since peanut butter and others when we will all question his commitment to the people he serves. He is not a savior or a demon. He is not on some great crusade to stick it to whitey or end the world and heís not going to bring about world peace with a wave of his well-manicured hand. Heís just a man doing the really hard job we elected him to do. He could be great and he could be horrible. Itís really too early to tell for sure which it will be. If he doesnít do his job to our satisfaction, the beauty of our democracy is that we can vote him out of office in four years. For now letís just give him a little time and see how he does before we anoint or crucify him.

Have You Been Downsized Due to Outsourcing?

For several years now we have listened to some within the business community tell us that America can't compete on a global scale unless they send our jobs overseas where they can be done cheaper. The question becomes, if we don't have good paying jobs here, how can we sustain our own economy? We want to hear from you. Have you lost your job? Have you been forced into a lower wage job due to outsourcing? Has outsourcing been a success for you? Did you end up in a better job?

Tell us your story so we can make sure the politicians see how outsourcing really impacts the workers who are backbone of America. Send your story to stories@reform-america.net
