Polls Donít Matter...VOTE!

Every day now there is a new poll out saying that the political races are getting closer or widening. At the end of the day it doesnít matter what people say they are planning on doing in the voting booth if they donít actually do it. ďLikely votersĒ are people that some agency has determined will probably show up on Election Day. This does not mean that they actually will show up. There are any number of factors that can impact their decision to vote or not vote on the day of the election. It could rain so heavily that they canít make it. Their car could break down. They could have a massive coronary. They might just get disgusted and decide to stay home. The point is they might or might not show up to vote. We cannot depend on them to make the decisions about who will lead us or what laws we will live under. We need to take the bull by the horns and get out there and vote.

We as Americans have a privilege not enjoyed by most of the people around the world. Every couple years we get to tell our leaders what to do. Stop and take a minute to think about that. We the people get to tell those who make the laws whether or not they have been doing a good enough job in our eyes to continue to work for us or be replaced by someone else. Thatís like having a job where you get to do the performance review for your boss every couple years and fire them if they arenít doing a good job. We get to tell the police and judges what new laws they will be enforcing based on how we vote. Sometimes we even get to change the laws that govern all other laws in the form of constitutional amendments. We do that. We the people are empowered to change the rules we live under by going into a booth and punching holes in a piece of paper, marking an x on a spot or touching a button on a screen.

What is perplexing to me is the number of people who donít vote simply because they donít want to do so. These people are absolutely pathetic in my view. They are not only unpatriotic, and un-American, they are fools in that they willingly give up their personal power due to laziness or abject stupidity. All they need to do is pay attention for a month or two every couple years and take a little time out of one day to vote. Failing to do that because you donít feel like it is pure laziness and failing to do it because of some silly notion that it doesnít matter is foolishness. Anyone who paid attention to the recount in Florida in 2000 knows that the presidency was literally decided by less than 1/100 of 1% of the population of this country. Each vote can make a difference and an election can come down to one vote quite literally. Even if you think the fix may be in on the election, why make it easier for them? Make it as hard as possible for them to fake it. The more votes against them they have to overturn the harder the task becomes.

So as you watch the television coverage and see the polls quoted remember that they are not always right and if people donít show up the people they want to be in charge will likely lose. It is your right and your duty as an American to vote. The lesser of two evils may still be evil but it is the lesser of the evils so you should probably try to make sure that the greater of the evils doesnít win.

Get Involved

Do you sit and yell at the TV when politicians come on? Do you shake your head sadly whenever you see a homeless veteran? Is that all you tend to do?

It's time to put up or shut up America. We all love to talk about how we could do things better or how we would do it if we were in charge. Well, it's time to put your money where your mouth is. If you can think of it, you can write it down. If you can write it down, you can type it. If you can type it, you can e-mail it and if you can e-mail it, you can send it here.

We at Reform America are committed to giving voice to anyone who wants to put their ideas out there to make our nation a better place. As the readership grows, we are able to take those views to a wider and wider audience. Grassroots campaigns begin with voices speaking out. You have opinions. Voice them. We aren't about conservative or liberal. We aren't about pro-this or anti-that. We're about Americans and the First Amendment. Reform America is about politics by, for and of the people. You are the people. You only need to speak up. America is listening. Send your article to: stories@reform-america.net

Have You Been Downsized Due to Outsourcing?

For several years now we have listened to some within the business community tell us that America can't compete on a global scale unless they send our jobs overseas where they can be done cheaper. The question becomes, if we don't have good paying jobs here, how can we sustain our own economy? We want to hear from you. Have you lost your job? Have you been forced into a lower wage job due to outsourcing? Has outsourcing been a success for you? Did you end up in a better job?

Tell us your story so we can make sure the politicians see how outsourcing really impacts the workers who are backbone of America. Send your story to stories@reform-america.net
