Terrorists at the Gates: Left of Center View

Are there terrorists operating in America? Are they planning to bring allies and arms into the country and execute some sadistic plot in an attempt to disrupt our way of life? Well of course they are. Is this something we should be worried about? Again, of course, but this current threat to citizen safety isnít anything new. In fact, America today is probably safer today from foreign nationals intent on doing her harm than ever before.

Throughout the Cold War, trillions of dollars were spent to keep us safe from the ďRed MenaceĒ. We were so afraid that the Soviets were going to attack that we actually held school drills on what to do in the even of an atomic attack (that never came). We were also convinced by our government that there was always some secret plot underway to destroy the fabric of our society. They, the government, never really did identify these plots, due to issues of national security (sound familiar?). We were just supposed to know that this plot was underway and to trust our government to protect us. Oh and to be understanding that they needed a lot of our money, and our trust that they were protecting us, but that they really couldnít explain how, and that we shouldnít worry about where the money was going and that doing so was unpatriotic and would cause us to loose the war (sound familiar?).

So once again, fear is being used by American politicians and Corporations to promote their agendas. The individuals and companies that are involved in the war or resulting energy crisis are all making enormous profits, again nothing new. The American public is again being lied to about where the money is going and why these various actions are being done in their name. Really, why did we attack Iraq? For their involvement in 9/11, that we later admitted they didnít have, but somehow the war is vital to keeping America safe from terrorist attack, we just canít tell you how. Itís classified. This fraud has been going on for years. War is big business. War makes careers and kings. It is extremely profitable for those that engineer it and it is second only to religion as a way of keeping the masses quiet and doing what you want them to do.

What is different this time around is our attitude towards immigration. During the Cold War pretty much any Russian that wanted to defect and become an American was welcomed with open arms. Cubans fleeing Castro were given a free room at the Tropicana. We even welcomed in the Vietnamese and Iranians who were on our side, to come and stay with us when things didnít work out as planned back in their homelands. America has always extended the promise of a safe place to stay after the conflict. It is a huge reason that people are so willing to help our soldiers on the ground. Itís why up until recently weíve been seen as liberators rather than invaders. But now, well sorry to say, but there just isnít any more room at the inn.

As Bush and the Bechtel boys felt their power slipping away they had to come up with something new to scare us into following them. Threat from abroad was no longer working so they had to move that threat onto our shores. Unfortunately for this to work it wasnít just the leader of the nation or movement, Bin Laden, Hitler, Stalin, Saddam, that needed to be demonized, but rather the entire populace. Everyone from the region had to be painted as a potential threat. We fear crazed, machine gun waving Islamic radicals that we see over and over again in every facet of the media. We donít want to let those people into our homes. Yet the act of violence that will most likely effect you, the stray bullets killing the children in our inner cities, the muggers, murders, the truly scary people, the majority of those are home grown. But crime and punishment is for state and local politicians to campaign on so, the federal government stays mute.

American wars impact people other than Americans. Throughout the Cold War we welcomed citizens from the countries we were at conflict as favorite sons and daughters returning home. We gathered knowledge from them and in return we gave them a part of the American Dream. Nothing extravagant, nothing more than most of us are fighting for. These new Americans immediately went to work for their new family, sometimes going as far as to return to their homelands on behalf of their new nation. We welcomed our former adversaries, and we won, partially on the strengths these new citizens. If we are serious about winning the war on terror, then itís time we got to know the people involved. We need to stop fighting shadow villains and get over being afraid of stereotypes. Immigration is the foundation of our nation. To change our ideals and values just because Fox news says the bogeyman is under your bed is to weaken ourselves at a time when we need to be at our best.

Enemies at the Gates: Right of Center View

The idea of enemies at the gates may seem archaic to some but in post 9/11 America that is a very real situation we face. Since for whatever reason our leaders have chosen to focus more on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan than securing our own borders against enemy incursions we face a very real threat of invasion by foreign nationals that have nothing more on their minds than bringing about the destruction of the United States of America. These misguided people that want so desperately to see us destroyed are not only determined, they know more about our border security than most Americans. What they know and our citizenry seems to be blissfully ignorant of is that our security is porous at best and virtually non-existent in many areas.

Along the coast of Oregon there are areas where it can be hours between law enforcement patrols with no other surveillance of the border present. Would be terrorists simply need to wait for the right time and basically walk ashore unchallenged. They could do this with suitcase nukes, poison gas or any other number of lethal devices with the sole intent of killing Americans. With a bit of planning, they could even have an accomplice waiting with a vehicle to take them a half a day down the road to one of the largest American cities where they would find literally millions of unsuspecting people in a 200 square mile radius that they could kill. A little closer they could find another major American city with fewer people but just as ripe for attack.

If you move to the South you have the Mexican border. This border is so poorly secured that hundreds of illegal immigrants cross on a monthly basis. Even if you put aside the issues of illegal immigration for a moment and how that impacts our nation, you have to see that this porous border poses a major security risk. What is to stop someone from coming into Mexico from a nation less friendly to the U.S. and then proceeding to sneak across our border to attack us? If we canít stop hundreds of immigrants how can we expect to stop a single psychopath bent on our destruction? In the world of nuclear arms we should be far less afraid of the nation that wants a cache of nuclear weapons than of the man who wants just one. That man is far more likely to use his one than the nation is to use their stockpile. There is some truth to the theory of mutually assured destruction. If your enemy knows they will be annihilated by you if they attack you, they are less likely to attack you. The problem with the terrorists is that they have no nation to attack if they attack us. After 9/11 we attacked Afghanistan and the Taliban was ousted yet al Qaeda survived. The Taliban did not attack us. Al Qaeda attacked us. The Taliban were just one supporter among many and al Qaedaís hosts at the time.

With a threat like al Qaeda out there and dozens of other organizations just like them lining up to come up with new ways to destroy us, we must be prepared for an invasion that will come one person at a time. It was eight years between the first attack on the World Trade Center and 9/11. These groups have proven that they are nothing if not patient. They plan their moves like a complex game of deadly chess. They will move pieces into place one at a time until they are ready to strike and then once everything is set, checkmate, another American city feels the pain of another 9/11. While they are moving their pieces into our nation, we are diverting funds that could be blocking them to fight their disposable soldiers half a world away. Make no mistake, they will attack us here again and no amount of fighting overseas will stop them. Killing our soldiers will not create terror and a terrorized America is their goal. They can only terrorize us by attacking here. Knowing that, we need to be focused on defending ourselves here.

Tens of thousands of cargo containers come into America each year without being inspected. Millions of illegal immigrants cross our borders without being challenged or searched in any way. While this goes on Congress bickers over fences and the rights of non-Americans to live in our nation without going through the immigration process. These are debates we can ill afford to be mired in while our nation faces the threat of mass murderers determined to ply their deadly craft on our soil. We need to take decisive action to secure our borders and use whatever technology is available to keep the threat out of our nation. While the NSA listens to innocent Americans talking on the phone and reads their e-mails, the forces of al Qaeda are plotting their invasions and attacks using pre-paid cell phones and sending their operatives across our undefended borders so they will be ready when the time to attack comes.

Do Elements Within the La Raza Movement Pose a Threat to America?

La Raza means literally ďThe RaceĒ in Spanish. The movement was formed in 1968 to promote the interests of the Mexican-American community. Like the NAACP and other affirmative-action minded organizations, La Raza has many members that are interested in being part of America and promoting equality for all Americans. The fundamental goals as stated by the movement are benign and represent the ideals of American diversity and cultural pride.

There is another movement affiliated with La Raza that has historically been more militant and still maintains documents within their organization that point to isolationistic views Read More

A Plan

The one major thing that seems to be lacking in the immigration debate is a real plan that addresses the legitimate concerns with illegal immigration. There are strong opinions on both sides and a lot of rhetoric but there isnít really any solid plan being promoted to address the illegal immigration issue in a way that is both fair and logical.

So, that being said here is my idea:Read More

Trucking Cross Borders

This is mainly a concern for the trucking business. If we allow these people to come into our country, bringing cargo that we in America have, and can supply, then we are saying that the American working people are not needed, and have lost all say to legally enforced DOT (Department of Transportation) laws.Read More
